Embracing Another Year: Learning to Love the Passage of Time

As another birthday encompasses me, I’ve found myself reflecting. Not just on the number that marks another year, but on everything that number doesn’t define. Getting older used to feel like something to resist, something to hide or soften or minimize. But with each passing year, I’m learning that aging is less about the number and more about the wisdom, grounding, and clarity we gain along the way. The truth is, age has become far less important to me. What matters now is who I’m becoming, day over day and year over year.

This past year has been filled with both beauty and challenge, as I’m sure it has been for many of us. In that reflection, the concept of the passage of time kept resurfacing. We spend so much of our lives waiting for endings; waiting to arrive at a destination, waiting for the uncomfortable moments to pass, waiting for the next chapter to begin. But when we slow down and really think about it, the passage of time is the only space where life actually happens. The journey, not the ending, is the part that deserves our presence.

We often fear time because it symbolizes aging and, eventually, mortality. But what if instead we softened into it? What if we learned to enjoy the passage of time, not just the highlights, but the ordinary moments, the imperfect moments, the growth-filled and uncomfortable moments too? Whether it’s finding joy in crafting something meaningful or remaining fully present through a difficult but transformative evaluation, there is always a way to meet time with curiosity instead of resistance. Not every day will be magical, but on the days that feel heavy, is there a way to make them just a little lighter? On the days that stretch us, is there a way to appreciate the stretch?

As I step into another year, I’m grateful for the time I’ve shared with all of you. Grateful for the conversations, the growth, the laughter, the support, and the lessons we’ve exchanged along the way. Thank you for being a part of my own passage of time one that feels richer, more meaningful, and far more beautiful because of the people I’m walking alongside.

So here’s to this season of celebration, reflection, and gentle becoming. And here’s to everything you will create, overcome, and bloom into in 2026. May we all continue learning how to enjoy the passage of time together; one moment, one breath, one year at a time.
