How did a 2 week solo travel trip through Europe help me build my personal and professional skills?
Travel is something that lives within a true part of my heart. The ability to walk on lands I’ve never been and conversate with people I’ve never met, it brings me deep joy to spread my wings and allow myself to unlock a new version of myself in a new place around the world. Although I prefer to travel to new places every trip, growth comes from all different forms of travel. It truly does not matter if you’ve visited a place 10 times, every time you visit, you are a newer version of yourself.
Over the many years of travel, it has become less about the destination and more about the quiet evolution that happens within. Each journey invites me to shed layers of who I once was; whether that be old perspectives, assumptions, and expectations, and replace them with something softer, wider, and more understanding. Even in familiar places, I notice the differences. The way I pause longer in moments over a new view, appreciate smaller details painted on the side of old buildings, or connect more deeply with the people and culture around me. It’s a gentle reminder that growth doesn’t require constant change in scenery, but rather a willingness to see with new eyes.
There’s something deeply and beautifully humbling about realizing that the world is so vast, and yet it has a way of making you feel both small and deeply connected all at once. Every conversation, every street walked, every shared smile becomes part of a larger story that shapes who I am becoming. Travel gives me, and all of us, the permission to be curious, to be open, and to embrace the unknown without needing to have all the answers. And in that openness, I find not only new places, but new pieces of myself waiting to be discovered.
I take great pride and gratitude in the ability to travel. To have the means; financially, emotionally, physically, the list truly goes on.
In this most recent trip, I was building resilience, curiosity and courage at every moment of everyday. Whether I was stepping into a new building or navigating a new transit system; I consistently felt the boundaries of my own growth being tested in a way that reminded me how lucky I am to experience this. How lucky I am to travel through this moment and to make it out on the other side with increased courage and understanding of my own ability to navigate complex situations.
We don’t have to think about growth and development at every single moment for it to be happening in and around us. We are complex beings in that often times we are so focused on the future we have no idea how much we are growing in the present. It is an awareness we all have the ability to cultivate.
And perhaps that is what makes the journey so meaningful. The quiet, steady unfolding of who we are becoming at each and every moment, even when we’re not consciously trying to change. Growth meets us in these everyday moments, in the pauses between destinations and experiences where the subtle moments shift our perspective to create a new. As I continue to move through both new and familiar spaces, traveling both near and far, I carry with me a deeper trust that I am evolving exactly as I am meant to; one experience, one insight, and one breath at a time.
